Yard Party on August 11

Westsiders are having a yard party on August 11. The theme is Back Yard Olympics.

Worship will be from 10:00 - 10:30, followed by fellowship, food, and fun from 10:30 - noon. This is a great opportunity to invite friends and family! Flyers are available to give away.

Bring School Supplies

Just a reminder to bring school supplies to church this Sunday for WFWA’s back-to-school event on August 17!

Please bring any of these items to church; there is a collection basket in the entryway.

  • Backpacks for all ages of students

  • #2 pencils, pens, pink erasers

  • Crayons, washable markers, highlighters

  • Scissors, bottles of glue, rulers

  • Colored pencils, watercolors, tape

  • Kleenex, copy paper, binders

  • Notebooks, wide and college-ruled

  • Calculators, regular and scientific  

You may also donate towards the purchase of supplies. Please mark donations specifically for WFWA.

The distribution event will be at Reedville Presbyterian Church.  Volunteers will fill the backpacks, using the list provided by the school,  and then label each for families to pick up. Change for Change

Thanks to you, Road 2 Hope will receive $519.50 as the January through June recipient of our Change for Change program.

Our July through December recipient will be Ukandu. The mission of UKANDU is to provide joy, hope, and connection to communities impacted by childhood and adolescent cancer. Since 1986, UKANDU has served more than 1600 families and 4000 children providing programming, free of charge, and returning the gift of childhood to thousands of children. Learn more at ukandu.org

HomePlate on September 12

We will serve dinner at HomePlate Youth Services on Thursday, September 12 (not August 1, as previously published! Apologies!)

Setup and cooking begin around 4:30 pm, followed by serving and cleaning up afterward. There is always an enthusiastic group of youth, ready for a full meal!

Volunteers and donations towards the food cost are always appreciated. Simply mark your donation as ‘Outreach Ministries.’

Grand Opening

Come celebrate with Family Promise as they unveil the newly renovated Family Promise of Greater Washington County Hillsboro House Shelter! The beautiful renovations will provide a safe and welcoming environment for the families they serve.

Enjoy light refreshments, a tour of the facility, and heartfelt words from those who made this project possible.  Sunday, July 21, 1:00-3:00 pm (Open House; drop-in between those hours) at 183 SE Sixth Ave in Hillsboro.

Back to School Drive

A note from Merry G:

The Western Farm Workers Association will be collecting  school supplies this summer and would like to invite Westside to participate this year.  We will provide backpacks filled with the items according to each students' class requirements. The items can be left in the basket in the entryway of the Sanctuary or dropped off at our office , 725 S.E. Seventh Avenue, Hillsboro, any day, 9 am to 9 pm. I will be purchasing items, and cash donations can be collected also.  Here is a list of some of the items :

Worship at Hagg Lake - RSVP!

This Sunday, July 14, is our annual worship service at the lake! We have secured Sain Pavilion ( a covered area) at Henry Hagg Lake. Service begins at 11:00 am to give you time to drive out.

After the service, the events team will provide hot dogs and sausages. Please RSVP here so that we have a good headcount. You may also sign up to bring a side dish - we still have green salad and beverage slots open.

If you have never attended, you’re in for a treat! We have all the usual worship elements - live music, prayer, and loving fellowship - but with fresh air and by a lake!

Senior Resources Fair

Are you looking for caregiving resources for an aging parent?

Village Church, 330 SW Murray Blvd, is hosting a Senior Resource Fair on Saturday, July 13, from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.

This free, informative event will include a panel from the Portland Elder Care Council at 11:00 and information booths on topics that can increase the quality of care for older adults. Click here for the flyer.

Raffles and prizes will be available throughout the morning.

WFWA Summer Campaign Continues

The Western Farm Workers Association members need the following items:

  • dried pinto beans

  • masa (corn flour)

  • bandages

  • adult toothbrushes

  • toothpaste

  • bottled water

  • reusable water bottles

  • long-sleeve shirts (men’s & women’s)

  • jeans (men’s sizes 28-34 and women’s)

  • sneakers in good condition (adult)

  • hats

  • blenders

  • microwaves

  • rugs

There is a basket in the church entryway where you can donate these items and Merry G will get them to the WFWA office. Or drop them off at 725 SE 7 Ave in Hillsboro, 9 am - 9 pm.
