Christmas Party!

Time to break out that ugly sweater (or not!) and start enjoying the holidays again!

On Sunday, Dec 4, we’ll have an evening of all things good - cookies, crafts, and Christmas music!

From 4:00 - 5:30 pm, we’ll be in the Lighthouse for festive food and drink, cookie decorating, and making Advent wreaths and ornaments.

At 5:30, we’ll transition to the sanctuary to hear live performances from some of your favorite local groups.

We’ll be asking for RSVPs soon, to ensure that we have enough food and supplies. Invite your neighbors, your friends, and your family. It’s fun for all ages!

Your Help is Needed

Our next blood drive will be on Thursday, Nov 17, in the Lighthouse. There are still 20 slots available, between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Patients in need count on drives like ours to provide a steady supply of blood. Each donation can help save up to three lives, so by meeting our goal, we can touch so many lives in our community and around the country.

Signing up is easy — go to https://www.redcrossblood.org/mydrives.html/drive/1-CPBIVD2 and pick your time.

WFWA Latest News

A message from Merry G about the Western Farm Workers Association:

Western Farm Workers Association welcomes new members and volunteers to the upcoming holiday season. We wish to thank everyone who has helped us in the past.

For Thanksgiving this year, we will be collecting dried pinto beans and rice at Westside, in a special shopping cart that will be blessed along with the food collection by Bonnie B on Sunday, Nov 20th.

We will need volunteers on Tuesday the 22nd. All the food will be gathered that morning at Reedville Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. It will be sorted and bagged up, then delivered to homes across the county. The distribution gets more efficient every year.

For the Christmas giving this year, we are taking requests now in our office. Our toy sort will be on December 16th at the Hillsboro United Methodist church on 8th and Lincoln. Christmas food will be done in the same way as at Thanksgiving, from Reedville Presbyterian, on December 22nd.

Please call if you have a question. Thank you

Thanksgiving Baskets

If you, or someone you know, are experiencing food insecurity, we want to help! Please contact Bonnie B at 503.464.6914 to add a recipient’s name and address.

Bonnie and her crew of volunteers will be packing Thanksgiving boxes and bags to distribute on Sunday, Nov 20. If you are available to help after worship, please let Bonnie know. She will also need assistance on Saturday to set up; time TBA.

The donation signup for non-perishables will be published this Friday. Donations for perishables, such as turkeys, eggs, and frozen pies, are also appreciated.

Charge Conference

Our Annual Charge Conference (basically an all-church meeting) is on Sunday, Nov 6, from 3:00 - 5:30 pm in person.

We will meet with our District Superintendent, Tim Overton-Harris, for the usual business - such as reports of the pastor, trustees, and finance.

We’ll also look to the future and envision how Westsiders can make an impact in the community and beyond.

All are encouraged to attend.

Extravagant Generosity Sunday

This Sunday, October 23, we will be celebrating our opportunity to pledge extravagantly of our time, talents, and gifts — inspired by God’s extravagant generosity towards us.

Our guest speaker will be Cesie Delve Scheuermann, a consultant in stewardship, development, and grant writing. For 25 years, while working as a volunteer and part-time consultant, she has helped raise over three million dollars for numerous non-profit organizations. She brings fun to fundraising!

If you are unable to attend, you can make your 2023 pledge at https://www.westsidejourney.com/stewardship-2022.

See you at 10:00 am on Sunday!

It takes about an hour to help save a life! If you’ve never donated blood, it is easy. Check-in, get a mini-health assessment, and then relax on the padded table. Oh! and refill with a beverage and a snack.

Signing up is just as easy — go to https://www.redcrossblood.org/mydrives.html/drive/1-CPBIVD2 and pick your time. Some slots are double, so sign up with a friend!

Movie Night this Sunday

All are invited to join us in the Lighthouse this Sunday, Oct 16, at 5:00 pm.

We will be viewing “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” the 1999 filmed version of the Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic family stage musical.

It’s the story of Joseph (Donny Osmond), son of Jacob (Sir Richard Attenborough). The favored son, he is betrayed by his jealous brothers and sold into slavery and driven to Egypt. Though beset with adversity, Joseph perseveres through wit and faith and becomes the Governor of Egypt, second only to the Pharaoh. This all sets the scene for when he meets his brothers who have come to Egypt to purchase food.

You won’t want to miss this humorous retelling of Genesis. Pizza and popcorn will be provided; please bring your own beverage.

Membership Class this Sunday

Pastor Brett is leading a membership class this Sunday, Oct 9, after worship, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm.

Why become a member?

We are called to embody our faith in the midst of a very specific local congregation and community, in the midst of people with real problems and peculiarities, in the midst of people who know about our eccentricities and weaknesses. —Mark W Stamm

We are here to support each other through our personal faith journeys. God means for us to travel this road together.
