Migrant Camp 2022

Heikes Camp is opening this week. We will be taking out a hot meal every Saturday at 5:00 pm, beginning this Saturday, May 28. If anyone would like to help with the Saturday meals this summer, or donate money we would appreciate it.

There will be 15 workers staying at Heikes this year. We get to eat with the folks as well. We are hoping Pastor Leo from one of the Tigard Hispanic churches will come out again this summer. He was great with them last year.

We are able to get some basic food needs from the Cornelius UMC Food Pantry but would appreciate donations to be able to provide fresh produce to them every week.

If there are any questions, please contact Bonnie at 503-464-6914.

Worship at the Lake

August 21 is our annual worship service at Hagg Lake.  Everyone is invited!

For those new to Westside, we worship at the lake each summer at the Sain Creek Recreation Area, which has a wheelchair accessible, covered pavilion with full restrooms.  Day parking is $7 per car ($5 for 55+ and veterans)

You will have the full worship experience - music, prayer, good conversation - and the opportunity to be baptized in the lake.  All of this and a potluck lunch!

Please contact Pastor Brett if you are desiring baptism.

What an Event!

Thank you to all who provided dinner to the Westmont College Choir on Wednesday night.  We fed 35-40 people, then enjoyed a concert with 75 in attendance!  Most of the audience were non-Westsiders.  What a wonderful way to minister to our community!

Native American Ministries Day this Sunday

May 1 is one of six United Methodist Church’s Special Giving days, when congregations around the world unite to give to an important cause. May 1 is Native American Ministries Day.

An offering is taken on this day and is used to develop and strengthen Native American ministries in the annual conferences, and Native American rural, urban, reservation ministries and communities. It also provides scholarships for Native Americans attending United Methodist schools of theology.

Donations support vital ministries and churches in Native American communities. Half of the donations collected remain within the Annual Conference to provide hope to children and youth; hope for a brighter future in impoverished communities and a voice to those who have felt voiceless for years.

There will be a special insert in the Sunday bulletin with more information.

WFWA Easter Party

To all the Westsiders who donated Easter party items, and those who helped us set up the party, the Western Farm Workers thank you for your generosity.

It was a wonderful event and everyone enjoyed it.

Westmont College Choir Concert

The Choir from Westmont College (Pastor Brett’s alma mater) will treat us to a free concert on Wednesday, May 11, at 7:00 pm.

The ensemble studies and performs a wide range of literature including the classic repertoire of the past five centuries, along with spirituals, folk-song arrangements, and music of other cultures.

In return for their beautiful music, we will treat them to dinner in the Lighthouse at 5:00 pm.  Please sign up on our website to bring a dish.

Holy Week Thanks

What a wonderful Holy Week we had last week!

On Maundy Thursday, we gathered for a delicious meal prepared by Sandy and participated in a special Seder (Passover) program.

Pastor Brett preached during the Good Friday service at Vermont Hills UMC, which featured the seven last words of Christ.

On Sunday, we celebrated our resurrected Savior! If you were unable to attend, watch this video on Youtube: https://youtu.be/eB2mTFwgq_M. It was a great day for music, praise, and confetti!

Thank you to everyone who helped with every aspect of these services.
